Production of certified fruit and vegetables for export from Lao PDR and Myanmar through integrated supply chain management” (Mango, Pummelo)

This project, conducted within the framework of the regional project MTF/RAS/242/CFC by FAO/ACISAI and AIT, assisted the Myanmar Fruit, Flower, and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (MFVP) in implementing an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program to control the Bactrocera Fruit Fly in mango production for export in Southern Shan State, along with providing farm management training to pomelo farmers from Mon State. The project, which concluded successfully, included mission visits, training, and workshops in 2012 and 2013, resulting in improved pest control, mango, and pomelo production practices in the region.

Mango Value Chain: Private Sector Development Program

This project's primary objective is to enhance private sector development in Myanmar, following the principles of the value links approach, in alignment with GIZ's strategic goals. It focuses on the mango Value Chain (VC) as a promising sector in Southern Shan State, with a goal to build partnerships that promote sustainable economic growth, increased competitiveness, income, and turnover for VC stakeholders. MFVP plays a role in facilitating and promoting the development of the mango sector and Lawksawk Mango Cluster, operating under the umbrella of the MFVP association, is tasked with the implementation of the project on unleashing the full potential of the mango Value Chain through strategic planning and collaborative efforts.

Tea Value Chain: Private Sector Development Program

The Tea Value Chain (VC) was a private sector development project by GIZ, similar to the mango value chain project. The project's primary objective was to enhance private sector development in Myanmar, following the principles of the value links approach in alignment with GIZ's strategic goals. It focused on the Tea Value Chain as a promising sector in Shan State, with a specific focus on establishing high-quality export, market-oriented tea production systems within Myanmar's tea industry. The project successfully accomplished its objectives by revitalizing the tea industry's value chain. Implementation of this project was carried out by MTC, formerly known as MTA (Myanmar Tea Producer and Exporter Association), which was one of the affiliated associations under the MFVP.

Strengthening membership base, member services, and management practices of MFVP head office yangon

Strengthening membership based, member services, and management practices of MFVP head office Yangon” was one of the projects supported by the Private Sector Development Project of GIZ. The Myanmar German Private Sector Development Project promoted sustainable private sector development and broad-based job creation by strengthening institutional, political, and technical framework conditions and capacities. The project aimed at strengthening capacities for sustainable private sector development with a focus on improved services for small and medium enterprises (SME) in Myanmar. By providing advisory services to Ministries as well as the Chamber of Commerce, sector associations, and civil society organizations, MFVP was one of the sector associations.

Upgrading Value Chain For Melon Production In Dry Zone

The melon value chain project was focused on building efficiencies and relationships to strengthen market channels and increase incomes for melon farmers in the Central Dry Zone (CDZ). The project supported the Myanmar Melon Producer and Exporter Association (MMPEA)—a nationwide melon trade/advocacy group—on initiatives including establishment of melon grades and standards to enable more consistent, fairer pricing for producers, especially for melons destined for cross-border trade. VCRD partners with a national horticulture association, the Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (MFVP) through an Innovative Grant to strengthen the melon value chain and build the Association’s capacity to provide training, services and outreach.

Food And Nutrition Security In Eastern Shan State And Rakhine State Through Value Chain Of Nutritious Crops

FNS stands for "Food and Nutrition Security Project." This project, implemented by MFVP in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), aims to increase the production of nutritious diversified vegetables in Eastern Shan State, Myanmar. It focuses on improving agricultural practices, promoting crop diversity, and enhancing economic productivity to benefit the target communities in terms of nutrition and food security. The project also emphasizes changing the mindset of local farmers towards better practices for long-term health benefits and has successfully increased awareness and knowledge about nutrition and food security in the region.

Economic Empowerment Of High Land People In East And West Of Myanmar Through Upgrading Value Chains Of CAEFY: Coffee; Avocado; And Elephant Foot Yam

Supported by UKaid, and in partnership with the Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producer and Exporter Association (MFVP), the "Economic Empowerment of Highland Communities in East and West Myanmar through Value Chain Enhancement (CAEFY: Coffee, Avocado, and Elephant Foot Yam)" Project was implemented from 2017 to 2020. The overarching objective of this project was to empower mountain communities in Myanmar to actively participate in the country's economic development by strengthening the value chains associated with key crops. Specifically, The project aimed to enhance the competitiveness and income of agricultural producers in the Kanpalet, Mindat, Matupi, and Taunggyi, empowering mountain communities in Myanmar for active participation in the country's economic development.

Standards in the Southeast Asian Food Trade (SAFT)

SAFT is a GIZ-supported project that cooperates with the ASEAN Secretariat on the development and implementation of regional food standards for good agricultural practices (ASEAN G.A.P.) and organic agriculture (ASOA). The aim is to verifiably apply both standards in the ASEAN region, particularly in the production of fresh and processed fruits and vegetables. Myanmar is one of SAFT’s five focus countries to showcase the implementation of ASEAN G.A.P. and ASOA. SAFT will provide support to the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, and MFVP as Private sectors. MFVP focused on implementing GAP training, workshops, and Global GAP Pomelo iPPP Project with Pomelo producers.

Sustainable Agricultural Development And Food Quality Initiative (SAFI): (Vegetable, Carrot, Strawberries, Edible Mushroom, Pomelo)

The Sustainable Agricultural Development and Food Quality Initiative (SAFI) is a GIZ-supported project that aims to support Myanmar’s government and private sector to rise to these challenges by enhancing the capacity of the country’s agri-food systems and its stakeholders to address the requirements of modern food markets. The project, spanning from 2018 to 2020, was implemented in the regions of Pyin Oo Lwin, Heho, and Pindaya. It featured MFVP as one of its private sector partners and aimed to support local farmers engaged in the cultivation of various vegetables and strawberry. The project's core activities included offering Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training to farmers and facilitating valuable market linkages with prominent local markets such as City Mart, Metro and the Makro wholesale market. By doing so, the project contributed to the growth and prosperity of the agricultural sector in these regions.

Network Partner For Agri Innovative Fund

The Agri novation Fund in ASEAN (AIF) strives to foster market-driven innovations in the production, processing, marketing, and market access in agricultural value chains while meeting quality and sustainability standards. The Fund creates opportunities for investment through public-private partnership and cooperation in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV). MFVP is the network partner on behalf of Myanmar. Myanmar has completed six projects aimed at enhancing the production of value-added products such as ginger, chili, mushrooms, and pomelo, as well as implementing Sloping Agriculture Land Technology, climate-smart agriculture practices, contract farming, intercropping, micro-irrigation, and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
